Glock 29 Upgrades - The Glock 29 Gen 4 offers a solid platform out of the box, and for many, that's what they want. For me, after building a few Polymer80s and getting a better idea of what I like, I knew I wanted to upgrade some parts to personalize it and run heavier loads.
You might be surprised when looking at the list that I didn't use triggers alone - yes, I did. I have used Zev, Overwatch and other aftermarket triggers as well as other aftermarket parts like plugs, springs etc. My personal choice, which is me, is to use proven OEM Glock parts and let them wear out. I don't shoot matches or precision targets - this is supposed to be a defensive gun so I want reliability and a trigger with enough pull so I don't accidentally discharge. Some will agree with me, some will vehemently disagree - the trigger decision is entirely up to you. Mine was supposed to work with the original Glock trigger parts.

The original Glock sights are better than nothing, but I really don't like them. Others must have felt the same, as there are tons of aftermarket vision suppliers. By the way, pick a brand name - some are downright crap and not strong enough.

I've had good luck with TruGlo and Trijicon, I prefer the latter. Trijicon sights are well designed, make aiming super easy, and are incredibly strong. I chose the Trijicon HD Night Vision Goggle (GL1040) for a large frame night vision goggle with an orange front bulb and tritium lighting. I wanted to use dim lights on purpose, but didn't want to add optics.
I use the Wheeler Sight Tool for pistol sights and love it. Installing and removing Glock sights is a breeze with this tool. You can't see it from this angle, but I put blue masking tape on the slide to protect the surface just in case.
My current tool for removing and installing Glock sights is this 2-in-1 Real Avid tool with a pusher on one end and a pusher on the other. What is a good tool? The small bolt you see requires a 3/16" thin wall socket. Having a rare earth magnet at the correct depth makes all the difference in securing the bolt properly when trying to screw it into the scope. Cheap tools don't have properly designed sockets , no magnets etc. Genuine Avid tools are correct and cheap imports are just that - I've seen them work right out of the box.
Complete. Including taking these photos, it took me about 10-15 minutes. The right tools make it very easy.
Top Glock Mods To Consider For Glock Owners
This is a Rival Arms Extended Slide Lock. OEM Glock slide stop handle and Tango Down Vickers tactical mag catch.
I usually like to change slides, slide triggers and clips. The slider stop is actually a big problem for me as I have a hard time gripping and can't even feel the sides pulling it down to remove the slider. It's really driving me nuts, and it's one thing I replace a lot. I installed a Rival Arms extended slide trigger and it just sticks out and I can hold it better. I wish I could find the packaging for it, but I installed an unnamed unit online and it has had issues from the start - the Rival Arms unit was my next go-to and is still in use. Point of the story - beware of cheap parts and test your stuff.
For Slide Stop grips, I actually still use the Glock unit. Usually I replace it, but it's hard to find one that fits the Glock Gen 4 29. I could use a Glock grip, it's not my first choice.
For Magazine Catch, I chose the Tango Down Vickers Tactical model. I've worn it a number of times as I like it to stand out a bit more than the original but not overly so. I've tried something that stands out so far, if you put the gun on the side, the grip depresses enough to release the magazine, then the next round fails because the magazine isn't properly seated.
The Best Glock Upgrades You Can Do Yourself
From what I understand, the stock Glock 29 springs are rated at 17 lbs. To better handle the hotter loads from the Buffalo Bore and Underwood, I'd like to put in stiffer springs, but I'm not quite sure what to go with. This helps achieve higher and more consistent speeds under these loads. Yes, the OEM recoil spring still works - it's an improvement. However, if you're running a spring that's too stiff, your gun may not cycle reliably with the other loads you'll be running.
Wolff Gun Springs makes the decision easy for you. They sell what they call a "Recoil Calibration Pak" with 17, 19 and 21 pound springs. They also provide many such assortments for various Glock models.
To install the springs, you'll need a two-piece lever, which Wolff also sells. Native Glock springs are in one fixed assembly and are not actually designed to come apart. Wolff levers make it very easy to try different springs without compromising the accuracy or reliability of the lever itself.
I installed a 19lb spring and found it to work for all my Buffalo Bore, Ammo Inc, S&B and Underwood loads. This is what I'm currently running and haven't had any reliability issues so far.

The gun was mounted the way I wanted it, and is as reliable as ever. At the end of the day, what you do is your choice, but be sure to test your combinations (new parts, magazines, and ammo) before you trust them.
Note that I had to buy all my parts - nothing here was paid for by sponsors, etc. If you click on the ad and buy something, I make a little money, but that's about it. You know how I really see things.
